The hard drives in the netbooks can range in size but the average is around 2 gigabytes. This coupled with plenty of memory lets this little laptop handle most applications with ease.

Many small laptops have become the norm for person to person communication as they almost all come with a built in microphone and video camera for chatting. This makes it as convenient as a cell phone but with the video capability, one step above. These features, coupled with a much longer battery run time than the average cell phone, may very well become just as commonplace.

There are a few things to be wary of when looking to purchase one of these. The battery life in some of the models can be quite low and they will need to be recharged frequently or run with the cord plugged. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s specifications as they will tell you what the actual run time is on a fully charged battery.

The easiest way to compare many of these laptops is by doing a brief Internet search. This will bring all of the manufacturers and suppliers directly to you and the actual specifications for all of the different models will be listed on each of their websites. Be sure to check that the battery life is what you will need for your expected use along with the proper wireless set up that you will need for your area.

In today’s competitive business market it is imperative that you bring your office with you when traveling near and far for important meetings and transactions. You need a conveniently sized small laptop to take in your car, on trains or on airplanes. Lugging along a larger computer would just not make sense.

In today’s competitive computer market there are several manufacturers that produce powerful as well as extremely portable small laptops. These computers have all the speed and features anyone would need to perform almost any task. They are a perfect size for travel on almost any form of transportation.

These small laptops are also great for students to have access to all their class work no matter where they are. A student could take their laptop to the library, coffee house or friends home or dorm room and be able to get all their assignments completed.

Most of us have flown on an airplane and sat next to an annoying passenger who is trying to balance their huge laptop on the tiny tray in front of them. You may have a long jaunt to your job or college classes on board the local community transportation network with lots of time to get some business or schoolwork done. This computer made the list of small laptops because it is the best value at $350. The price makes it affordable for the college student as well as the small business owner. It is a little heavier than the other small laptops and does not have a DVD drive. It does have a 160GB hard drive and three USB ports, so you can store movies easily.

HP Mini (AKA 2113)

This baby is perfect for the person on the go. They are moderately priced at just under $800. It is very thin, only other in the small laptops category that is thinner is the MacAir. It has several other great features as well, aluminum skin and titanium framework and HP3D hard drive.

Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-S1001X

If you are looking for small laptops that are heavy duty this is the one. Also in the $800 range it may be the strongest and when plugged into an energy source (even when turned off) it can charge any USB item.

Apple MacBook MB061LL/B

This computer is not the smallest on the small laptop list and is also a bit heavier. It has a larger screen size, not great for travel but some people prefer the larger screen size. At $970 it is also not the cheapest in the small laptops category. It does have excellent WI-Fi connectivity and can pick up a signal almost anywhere.

Now you have an idea of what type small laptops are currently on the market. Before you make a final decision, do some price comparisons online or look in the local paper. Talk to someone you know who may already own a small, portable computer to see how satisfied they are with the performance and travel-ability.
